Is It True That There's No Treatment for Red/Brown Skin Discolorations on the Body?

Today a dermatologist said to me that there's no treatment for skin discolorations on the body, only on the face because the skin here is different. I have redbrown spots on my right leg because i had a burn and i also have the same redbrown spots on the face because i had acne. I found her statement quite strange, is it true? Is there really no treatment for such spots on the body? If there is what options do i have?
