Hi I had textured implants 310cc in fornt of the muscle a few years back, I find it very hard to examine myself for any lumps etc as I can just feel the whole textured implant which is full of lumps and bumps so im not sure what is supposed to be there and what is not. I also have capsular contracture on the right breast this is very hard but does not cause me any discomfort I cant examne this breast at all as I cant feel anything but a hard implant. Could you please give me some advice Thankyou

Breast exam and implants

If you do not feel comfortable with self examination maybe you should see your doctor so that he can show you how to do so. Also routine mammograms and if necessary MRI's can be helpful as well.

Breast examination with capsular contracture

Even with a capsular contracture the implant will not be covered in lumps and bumps, rather it will feel firm and round. There is no problem with the texture either and you should be able to do a good self examination of the breast tissue. If you have doubts about what you are feeling an exam by a professional is a must and regular mammograms as well. Best of luck, peterejohnsonmd.com

Hardening

Options for capsular contracture are cutting or removing the capsule, use of a biologic mesh, or changing the implants to a submuscular pocket. A pocket change will help with the palpability of the implant as well as changing to silicone. I can not say which option is best for you....see a board certified plastic surgeon.
