Treating forehead wrinkles with Botox or Dysport

Elizabeth S. Lee, MD answers: How do I get rid of forehead wrinkles?

People always say I look angry or worried because I have wrinkles on my forehead. Which wrinkle treatments will get rid of forehead lines?

An angry look can be caused by knitting the brows or pulling the eyebrows together when we concentrate or frown. This condition can be treated with Botulinum Toxin A in the form of Botox or Dysport.  The goal is to relax those muscles that make us frown.  Too much relaxation of too many facial muscles can make us look weird, but losing the ability to frown just makes us look relaxed and takes away that "angry" look.

A: Botox or Dysport for dynamic wrinkles and Fillers for static wrinkles

Forehead wrinkles are typically dominated by dynamic nature of your expression where facial muscles are intentionally as well as involuntarily contracted. Botox or Dysport will do a fine job relaxing these set of muscles with precise injections performed by a board-certified dermatologist or plastic surgeon. Touch-up treatment may be considered using fillers such as hyaluronic acid to fill in the static lines, i.e. wrinkles that are evident at rest. Sculptra may be used by an experienced physician with advanced expertise to replenish bony structure of the eyebrows and temples to better defy force of gravity. Topical retinoid and/or laser resurfacing may be helpful to address the fine lines and textural changes of the skin on the forehead.
