Calf Liposuction Alternatives for Someone with Metal Clips in Leg?

Several years ago, I had veins my lower right leg stripped and the placement of the traditional metal clips. As a result, I am unable to have an MRI in that leg, etc. Even after a considerable weight loss (at goal weight 5'11"/160lbs) and exercise (I'm a runner), I find my calves are abnormally large (19" in circumference). Due to the clips, my plastic surgeon is reticent about performing traditional Liposuction on my calves. Are there any other options for me?

Metal clips from years ago are no problem for calf liposuction

The veins have closed off and the metal clips are of no use anymore. Liposuctioning can be done without any problems in these areas. Go for it.

No effective Liposuction alternative yet

Unfortunately, there are no AS YET OTHER effective and predictable ways to remove fat besides liposuction. As regards surgical clips and vein stripping ; Our legs have 2 venous systems ; the deep (which we absolutely need) and the superficial which serves to give off heat in the Summer and which some Cardiac surgeons jokingly insist were put their for their use in coronary bypass surgery. The superficial leg veins (the greater and lesser Saphenous veins) lose valve function and form... more

Reducing fat volume without surgery

An external ultrasound device is in the midst of the last phase of FDA testing. This device has shown some promise overseas in reducing fat volume without surgery. Stay tuned to the media, as I’m sure you will hear about it soon after its approval should that occur.

Calf liposuction

With clips in your calf, you may want to consider direct excision of fat in your calves. However, the scars will most likely be more noticeable. After a large amount of weight loss, you may also have excess skin. Therefore, it would be beneficial for you to have direct excision of the skin as this will allow excision of the fat to be much safer. Good luck!

Calf Lipo should be fine for someone with metal clips

It should be ok to perform liposuction years after this procedure. It might be wise to use a smaller size cannula and gentle surgical techniques. Are your deep veins okay?

Liposuction and prior vein stripping on legs

Eventhough you now have clips on stripped veins  due to varicosities, I think it shoudl be OK to have liposuction of these areas.  I assume that the vein stripping was done a long time ago. Therefore the vessels have already thrombosed and permanently closed.
