Hair Transplant Donor Depletion

Removal of all follicular units in this region would leave the donor area bald. A typical patient has thousands of grafts that can be harvested and still leave the donor area well camouflaged. The number of course depends on the density and balding pattern among other factors.

Number of Grafts Below Occipital(Nuchal) Ridge in Back of Head

The number of grafts in any area will vary tremendously, depending on the density of the donor scalp. It is possible, but not smart, to remove every hair from the donor area which would then be bald with obvious scarring.

How many donor grafts in the occipital scalp?

The number of possible donor follicles is a factor of how dense your donoe area is. In total, there are between 5-8,000 possible follicles from the sides and back in total for hair transplantation in all stages.

As a general rule, you never want to harvest more than 50% of your donor area or moth eaten thinning can occur. In fact, we operate off of no more than 15% removal per session... more
