I am a male in my 20s. I believe my nose is overprojected and too convex/round (especially when I smile). I like the width from the front view and the general shape of the tip. What exactly would go into a rhinoplasty that deprojects a nose such as mine? Would it be a simple or complex precedure? How predictable is the outcome? I don't want any material changes, just a subtle reduction in overall size and a straightening of the dorsal part.
Answer: Rhinoplasty for an over projecting nose Yes I agree with you. Your nose is over projecting with both the dorsum and tip. I don't think that correction would be very difficult and you should get a great result. The most important thing is for you to communicate well with your surgeon. You need to be able to review photos of your nose with possible changes so that you are on the same page. Good luck.

CONTACT NOW Answer: Well-performed rhinoplasty surgery may result in tip deprojection and a lower bridge. You appear to have an overprojected tip, a dorsal hump, and a "tension lip deformity". The tension lip is the bulge where your columella meets your upper lip. Depending on your examination, well-performed rhinoplasty surgery may be considered for a more pleasing nasal appearance. Thank you.Dr Joseph

Answer: Rhinoplasty for the overly projecting nose There are multiple techniques performed during the rhinoplasty procedure to decrease the projection of the nose. The dorsal septum can be shaved down, and a tip rhinoplasty can also help to project the nose. Releasing of the depressor septi ligament will prevent the tip from drooping when smiling. When there is a recessive chin present, a chin implant is also helpful for facial balance and proportions

Answer: Rhinoplasty for nasal overprojection Thank you for your question. Your nasal assessment is accurate. You would require rhinoplasty to reduce the dorsum and set back your tip. Your tip could also be strengthened so it would resist the tension placed on it when you smile. The muscle that pulls at the septum could also be incised to improve this further. See a rhinoplasty specialist to help guide you to the outcome you are hoping for. All the best!

Answer: Male rhinoplasty for an over projecting nose If the appearance of your nose concerns you, it can be improved with an artistically performed rhinoplasty. What would be the best option and exact procedure would depend on an examination and discussion about desired outcome. Keep in mind that following advice from a surgeon on this or any other website who proposes to tell you exactly what to do based on two dimensional photos without examining you, physically feeling your tissue, assessing your desired outcome, taking a full medical history and discussing the pros and cons of the operative procedure would not be in your best interest. Natural appearing results need to be individualized and what is appropriate for one patient is not necessarily the best for someone else. I would suggest that you find a surgeon with extensive male rhinoplasty experience certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery and one who is ideally a member of The American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (ASAPS) or a facial plastic surgeon(otolaryngologist) that you trust and are comfortable with. You should discuss your concerns with that surgeon in person. Robert Singer, M.D., FACS La Jolla, California
