Have Tmj but Want to Get Braces for my Crooked Teeth What Should I Do?

I am a 25 year old male and I have mild tmj which according to me is because of my slight overbite and a deep bite. My front 4 upper teeth are crooked.I have always been very consious of my smile and hence am going forward with braces, the ortho insists that there is no need for me to address my tmj issue I am also not very keen in solving the tmj as it might increase the duration too much. The straightening phase would take 14 months how much would the duration be increased if got bite corrected
