Can Facial Implants Cause Bone or Tissue Erosion?

I am considering cheek implants as i feel this (midface area) is somehow depressed. I just want to know if implants, as a long term solution, are prone to cause tissue or bone erosion? I had goretex implants put in my nasolabial folds three years ago. I have not had any problems (so far and i hope this will continue to be so). I am 27. Thank You

Bone erosion due to cheek implants is minimal

There may be a small amount of bone erosion that occurs with cheek implants over a very long period of time. However, we have not seen any problems with it in over 20 years of private practice.

Bone Erosion Secondary to Facial Implants

Facial implants can cause slight bone erosion, but this is minimal and will have no long term affects on your facial contour. I've never seen tissue erosion secondary to these implants. Nasal implants are an exception, but I don't use synthetic products to augment the nose.

Can Facial Implants Cause Bone or Tissue Erosion?

I have performed cheek augmentation with cheek implants for well over 22 years and IMHO, bone erosion from cheek implants is a very rare event. The main issue, IMO is making sure the plastic and cosmetic surgeon understands and follows the proper aesthetics of facial beauty when selecting the implant material, shape and size for the creation of a naturally, more attractive face.

Can Facial Implants Cause Bone or Tissue Erosion?

Hi, Implants placed over bone do cause some erosion over time. However, unless implants are not placed properly, the erosion is not significant through the life of the implant. Best, Dr.S.
