Hi Vanessa, As a practitioner of Thermage, I can tell you I answer this question all the time. Thermage as with any other procedure works the best on the right patient. Even surgeries such as facelifts, tummy tucks etc... only give good results when the patient is properly informed and selected. All we as surgeons can do is maximize the chances of you having a nice result with the procedure we decide on together. Particularly with Thermage, many non-surgeons only have this to offer to tighten skin. Hence everyone becomes a candidate. You have to be able to differentiate between when Thermage can yield a good result or when you have to recommend sugery. If that doctor doesn't do surgery, how will he/she be able to inform you properly? Also, many Thermage practitioners just try to get patients in and out quickly as possible. To properly perform Thermage in my opinion, you have to monitor skin temp, adjust individual pulses, etc...in fact Thermage on the face for me almost takes as long as when I perform a facelift. If I don't take my time to perform the procedure properly, I don't feel like the patient will have a chance at obtaining nice results. I routinely offer Thermage after SmartLipo to patients who feel they need more skin tightening but don't want a big surgery. And in the right patients, there is a nice improvement. My best advice is to find a physician who will stand behind their work and be with you from start to finish to achieve something that you'll be satisfied with. Best of luck! Dr. Alex Liu
