6 Months ago I had a septorhinoplaasty to correct a severe preforated septum. my nostrils now look uneven, one looks "pinched" My surgeon now advises me that an alar rim graft should fix this problem so I have a surgery scheduled to remove a little scar tissue and have the graft put in my nostril. My question is: what is the recovery like for this surgery.I looked HORRIBLE after my first surgery and it took MONTHS for the swelling to go down I am really traumatized that my nose will look bad again

Recovery after Alar Rim Graft Placement

Recovery after placement of an alar rim graft is normally insignificant compared to the recovery after your previous complete rhinoplasty. You will probably have minor swelling at the rim and the site of the cartilage harvesting.

You may consider a Non-Surgical Rhinoplasty to correct a "pinched" nostril after Rhinoplasty Surgery.

I read your concern. It is difficult to advise you without a photo, so consider re-posting your question with a photo for the RealSelf experts. In my practice, I have had good success lowering retracted nostril margins with Silikon-1000, an off-label filler for permanent results. I prefer this to alar rim grafting for many reasons. I attached a photo demonstrating non-surgical nostril lowering with Silikon-1000 for your perusal. Hope this helps. Dr. Joseph more
