Are scars from chin liposuction noticeable after healing, or does the procedure hide the incision marks? Is there ever a need for stitches, or can that make the scarring worse?

One behind each ear and one in the natural crease underneath the chin
In order to perform liposuction in the jowl area, under the chin, and throughout the neck, I generally use 3 small incisions – each, 3-4 millimeters (1/4”) in length, placed one behind each ear and one in the natural crease underneath the chin. These incisions are so small that they rarely need to be sutured closed. While stitches likely wouldn’t make the scars worse, the scars are so small that stitches simply aren’t necessary. Because the incisions...

Chin liposuction incision placement
The placement of a chin or jaw liposuction incision is pretty standard. I can be in two areas. Most common is just under the shadow of your chin in a little crease called the submental crease. This almost never needs a stitch. Two other potential places you could have an incision is just under and behind your ears. Also, this is less than 3mm in length so it's more of a puncture than an incision. Heals awesome!! Let me mention a few things,...

Chin lipocontouring and needle placement
The lipocannula is typically placed through a very small incision in the submental crease under the chin which is very well camoflouged. Frequently chin liposuction is done along with contouring of the entire neck. When this is done there are small incision sites just behind each earlobe which are also very well concealed. I use a single very small dissolvable suture for each incsion site and incisional scarring has never been an issue. Good Luck!

Chin liposuction
The incision for chin liposuction is typically done right under the chin or behind the earlobes. The incision is very minimal it is more like a large needle which is the small instrument called a canula that is used for the procedure. There should be no visible incision line after liposuction of the chin and neck area. The placement of the incisions is based upon where the excess fat is being removed. When the liposuction is needed to address the entire neck area then the incision behind...

Where is the Liposuction Needle Placed in the Chin to Remove Excess Fat?
Three areas are used, under chin fold or submental. And bilateral ear lobules if needed. Yes I use a dissolvable one suture.

The incisions are made behind the earlobe and just under the chin.
These incision need not be more than 2 mm long when using microcannulas to perform the neck liposuction. This is a procedure that is so comfortable that it can be perfomed under local anesthesia. The tiny incisions are so small that there is no need to suture them closed. They are self sealing.

Location of Liposuction Cannula Placement for Chin Liposuction
For chin (neck) liposuction, the liposuction tube (cannula) is typically placed through a very small incision just under the chin. Sometimes, an additional incision may be made just under the earlobe.

Chin Liposuction
Thank you for the question.
Incisions used for chin liposuction are generally placed below the chin and/or below the ear lobes. I prefer to close all incision lines because I think this “closed technique” allows for better scars.
I hope this helps.
