Open rhinoplasty scars usually heal extremely well without special treatment

The scar on the columella for an open rhinoplasty usually heals extremely well without any specific scar treatments such as creams or lotions. It is extremely rare that a very noticeable scar is a consequence of this type of surgery.

Scar treatment for Open Rhinoplasty

When done properly across the narrowest waist of the columella, the visible partition between the nares, and stitched carefully these scars heal beautifully and are barely visible even at close distances. If your scar is pronounced what is done would depend on WHY your scar turned out this way including re doing the scar over.

The best way to treat a scar from open rhinoplasty is careful closure of the initial incision

Of course no one is perfect and all of us have had visible scars in rare patients, but for most the incision from open rhinoplasty should heal and blend very well without any topical treatments. Topical scar treatments contain silicone gel and are designed to keep pressure on the scar. However, there is virtually no tension on the columella so this is a rare necessity. For people who still wish a recommendation, I suggest either Scar Fade or Kelocote. One more way to insure an invisible scar... more

Scar revision nose

If the incision was located and sutured properly you should not need anything. If the incision was not in the right position it can become more visible in which case you need revision surgery to move the scar line but that is not always possible. What is the most commonly used scar treatment for the scar left after open rhinoplasty?

The sacr fron an Open Rhinoplasty typically heals very well, in my experience. There are rare occassions where the edges of thin skin make the scar more noticable and a scalpel abrasion, of the edges under local anesthesia take care of the issue. For red, or wide sacrs, you could try scar fade or a similar product. IMHO, do nothing until advised by your Rhinoplasty surgeon.

Rhinoplasty scar treatment

The most common treatment for open rhinoplasty scar across the columella (between the nostrils) is extremely careful surgical closure, and nothing beyond. These scars melt away in my experience, regardless of skin type and ethnicity.

Rhinoplasty Scar Treatment

It's hard to answer. If you mean fullness of some areas of the nose after rhinoplasty then steriod injection. If you mean the incision then simple gels do well (Aquafor, Vaseline, etc). If it's a bit red then using a steroid cream for a week or so may settle that down. Visible scars after rhinoplasty are rare. Best of luck Dr. Chase Lay

Scar treatment after rhinoplasty

We never have used or needed any scar treatment after open rhinoplasty, or for alar base reduction. Sun screen alone should do nicely. Best of luck, peterejohnsonmd
