Sientra Breast Implants offer comparative quality and safety

Sientra breast implants are not new and have been sold around the world for years through the Silimed company. Since they are now FDA-approved, patients can be assured that they are comparable in manufacturing and quality to that of Allergan and Mentor. The only potential advantage that they may bring to the American breast implant market is competition, which may lower the implant price for surgery.

Silimed/Sientra breast implants FDA approval

I have not personally used these implants. I do believe that since the FDA has approved them this means they have undergone years of intense study and most likely will be comparable to Mentor or Allergan implants, which are FDA approved.

Sientra Implants

I have not personally used these new implants and they have not yet promoted them to my practice. I will be interested to see them and evaluate them personally if I feel they offer an excellent aesthetic, safe and cost effective alternative. I am currently, however, completely satisfied with my implant options

New Implants

I have not personally used these implants, but it is significant that the FDA has approved them. This means they have passed years of intense study and undergone rigorous clinical trials. I doubt they offer any advantages over the other implants already available in the U.S., which have also been through the same scrutiny. Most of us have a favorite brand of implant based on years of experience, and if your surgeon favors the new Silimed implants, I'm sure they will be great. more

Few of us have any experience with the Silimed breast implant introduced this week by Sientra, though the FDA standard is a hard test to pass, and the implants are a new and safe alternative. We have yet to see the styles, and warranty available and how they match up with what we currently have to offer.

Sientra implants approved by the FDA will not change most surgeons recommendations

The approval of Sientra implants is a welcome addition to the choices for patients. However, these implants do not have an established track record in North America and at best will be similar to those that we already feel comfortable with recommending. The scrutiny that medical devices and particularly breast implants have undergone prior to approval is very detailed.
