Tension on Punch Excision Scar, Could Waiting a Year First Be a Bad Idea?

2mos ago i had a punch excision of a 4mm boxcar. the scar is becoming increasingly depressed and widened and a small, hard bump has developed directly above and below where the boxcar was. my derm said to come back for co2 lasering in 3mos. i wanted a 2nd opinion from a plastic surgeon, but the office i contacted said to wait a YEAR before doing anything, as "scars can change." but i fear it'll change for the worse, as the tension on the scar will cause even further damage to surrounding skin.
