This could have been avoided altogether by pre-treating for a couple of weeks with a prescription bleaching cream, like hydroquinone, and tretinion. Dark spots, or hyperpigmentation, can be a side effect of chemical peeling.  It is best managed immediately by the following: 1. Sunscreen and sun avoidance - Don't get any sun on the face for the next few weeks 2. You should be using a prescription bleaching cream and cortisone cream to help resolve those dark and red spots quickly.  Even another light jessners peel later can even out the color also.
