I am scheduled for a breast augmentation in a week. I took Flagyl last week which is a medication to avoid. Will I still be able to have the surgery? What complications could occur?

Flagyl prior to breast implant augmentation surgery
I do not see any contra-indications to taking flagyl prior to breast implant augmentation surgery. I would discuss this with your surgeon.

Will my use of Flagyl complicate my breast augmentation
Hi there-
I can only assume that you are using Flagyl to treat an infection...
Because fundamentally breast augmentation involves placing a foreign body into your body, it is particularly important that the conditions at the time of the procedure be optimized.
I would postpone your surgery until your infection is clear and you are as healthy as possible.

Flagyl and breast augmentation
Why are you taking Flagyl? If you have an active infection in another body area, you are probably better off delaying your surgery until the infection clears.

Antibiotic use prior to breast augmentation
If you do not have any active signs of infection, you should be OK to proced with your surgery. You should speak with your surgeon to ensure that he or she is aware of your recent antibiotic use. The worst case scenario with infected implants is that they may need to come out for a minimum of 3 months prior to replacement. This is a very unhappy complication for both patient and surgeon, so it's best to be completely healthy prior to your surgery. Good luck, /nsn.

Breast augmentation and Flagyl
I see no problem with your having taken Flagyl. If you were taking it for an infection, though, it is most important that this infection has fully resolved before placing the implants. I agree that you should review this with your plastic surgeon.

Infection = No breast augmetation
I agree with Dr. Aldea. In is an unnecessary risk to perform a breast augmentation with an active infection. The last thing anybody wants to have an infection occur with your implant and/or incisions. Wait until infection clears then proceed.
Good Luck.

Delay surgery until all infections are clear
I prefer that my patients not have had any recent issues with infections when I am placing implants. Is it possible to delay you procedure to make sure you are fine and don't need anymore anitbiotics or further treatments.

Flagyl and Breast Augmentation
To be absolutely safe, you should not have any active infections at the time of Breast Augmentation (such as sinuses, pneumonia, urinary etc). Since any infection in the body may reach and infect any implant, inclusive Breast Implants, it is safest to postpone elective surgery until you are free of infection.
You should contact your surgeon as soon as possible to get his/her advice in this matter.

Flagyl before breast augmentation
This is one I would call your plastic surgeon about. I have many patients with Crohn's or Ulcerative Colitis who are on Flagyl and can't go off the medication so check with your doctor. Good luck on your surgery.
