Switching from Benzaclin and Tazarac for Acne

My son had a Microdermabrasion done yesterday for acne. He has lesions around his mouth forehead, and cheeks. He was using Benzaclin and Tazarac, which made his skin red and irritated. I'm considering trying the Acnescription, but wondered if I should switch now, or wait until after his senior pictures which are in a week.

Acne therapy one week prior to important engagement

Ideally, you should see your board-certified dermatologist at least 4-6 weeks prior to an important engagement if you have inflammatory cystic acne. If you only have one week, cystic lesions may undergo intralesional cortisone injection. Oral antibiotics should be initiated right away to calm things down somewhat.

Switching Acne Treatments

I would not switch treatments until you are sure the ones you are one are not working. Redness and irritation should be reported to your dermatologist and are common side effects of Benzaclin and Tazorac. I would suggest discussing this with your dermatologist but would not start anything new before hand or before any important pictures.
