Suture Material Left in Stomach After Gastric Bypass

Latest answer by Peter A. Aldea, MD

I have had significant pain for over one year and an infection. Finally, I hired another doctor to go into my stomach and see if I had a hernia. He found about three inches of suture materials. Is this the standard of care?

Gastric Bypass Complication
I am truly sorry your gastric bypass was complicated by prolonged pain and an infection. But this forum is not the proper place to recruit legal opinions on what would constitute "the standard of care".
The way Medicine is practiced in your part of the country determines it and your second surgeon is in a much better position to advise you on it than any one on this forum.
