How Do You Know if a Surgeon is Really Good at What He Does?

I'm interested in multiple plastic surgeries, but I guess this question in particular could go for tummy tuck or vaginal rejuvenation. With vaginal rejuvenation there's no before and after pics other than the labioplasty, but I'm not interested in that. I want to know how do you know if the doctor is really tightening it up down there?

Picking the best Surgeon for your procedure, and how to find out what was done.

Picking the Best Plastic Surgeon: Finding Dr. Right Posted on April 26, 2012 The most critical decision to be made in achieving the best plastic surgical result is picking the most experienced and talented, that is the best, plastic surgeon possible. Too often, patients choose a physician based on a catchy ad, the brand name of a technique, the basis of one or two before and after photos, or their web site’s search engine ranking. These criteria will not find the most experienced and... more

Surgeon qualifications

While many plastic surgeons do labiaplasty procedures, few of them actually do vaginal rejuvenation (tightening). Some plastic surgeons work with a gynecologist who does the vaginal tightening during the procedure if that is what you desire.

Selecting a surgeon

In general nothing speaks more about a surgeon than his/her reputation. A referral from another satisfied patient is one of the best ways to get started but you need to arm yourself with more than just that. A great place to look for "how to choose your surgeon" can be found by Googling the American Society of Plastic Surgeon's website. Glad to have helped...RAS

Choosing a Surgeon

Choosing a good surgeon is not the same is choosing a surgeon who is right for you...both are important. First and foremost, you should trust your surgeon, and they should be board certified. RealSelf is an excellent resource for the questions you will have as you move forward. My colleagues here have a lot to offer as you choose! Hopefully, however, after surgery you will feel one hundred percent confident that the surgeon who operated knows you best. Some questions to ask are: -Are... more

Selecting a Surgeon

A good place to start in selecting a Plastic Surgeon is with the American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS). Make an appointment with a couple of highly trained Plastic Surgeons in your area, and see who you are the most comfortable with. As for the vaginal tightening, a gynecologist may need to get involved. Many times, these surgeries are scheduled at the same time. Consult with a Plastic Surgeon to discuss your needs and expectations.

Choosing your surgeon

Is not a simple thing to do. So many variable to consider, especially the skill and judgment of your doctor. If you are thinking of 'tightening' up the area, you are talking about vaginal rejuvenation as Dr. Yu mentioned. In choosing your doctor, you should be able to talk to happy and maybe not so happy patients of theirs to find out how good the surgery was for them.

My question was incomplete. I ran out characters, and had to cut it down. Dr. RAS has good information, but what if you don't know anybody that has gone to your surgeon? That doesn't make him a bad surgeon, or a bad choice, just a little less known right? But my question is for a tummy tuck or vag rejuv are there certain questions to ask or information as the consumer we should know, to know if the surgeon is going to give us the results we want? Obviously we want a board certified surgeon, is better to ask how long have you been doing this or how many types of this surgery have you preformed? Is a newer surgeon better than an older because their techniques are more current? What is better old fashion cutting, or laser rejuv? What does the laser do? Does it cut or tone, or what does it do? Are there certain things we should know before hand that may help us make a better decision about the surgeon. I think most doctors probably have a preference in technique, but how do we know we'll like the results w/o any before and afters to go by?

As far as the tummy tuck goes, I've seen it done on dr90210, and they're supposed to tighten the abdominal muscles as well as pull and cut the skin. how do you know if you're dr is really going to do the work and tighten the muscles and not just pull the skin? Can you look at a picture and tell if the person has been tightened, or not really because to the untrained eye it could look like tightening or lipo to the love handle areas?
