What Side Effects Can Be Expected from IPL Photorejuvenation?

Is it normal to have striped swelling on the entire face after IPL photorejuvenation? It went from red and swollen to a quilted pattern. It has been 7 hours since the procedure.

There is usually a couple days of downtime

IPL is a safe treatment as long as it’s done correctly and accordingly to your skin type. The downtime includes redness, darkening of the pigment and swelling for 3-4 days after the procedure. Most patients need 3-5 treatments for the best results. Try to avoid using any harsh exfoliating products or prescription strength creams for a weeks prior to your procedure and avoid sun exposure to prevent skin damage.

Can Be Normal

This can be a normal result of IPL. Do not panic. This usually will go away as long as you were not burnt. Please give this 48 hours. Sometimes this is a normal reaction to an intense treatment.

However, if this does not resolve itself within three days, you should return to your physician. This is especially true if you have bar marks after the procedure. This would be from a burn. Fortunately, it can be corrected but it is not easy.
