My Stomach Still Very Tight After Tummy Tuck Some 5 Years Ago, Can I Still Have a Baby?

I had a tummy tuck some 5 years ago and the doctor removed a lot of skin and fat before stitching it back. My stomach is still very tight and the area still feels like plastic (cannot feel any sensation in the stomach area). When I eat little extra, i get breathless. I want to have a baby but just not sure if the stomach will expand when it needs to, with pregnancy. Please advice if I can have a baby in this condition. I am already 38. Thanks for your help - Sara

Yes, pregnancy after tummy tuck should be fine

Hello, I see no reason why you could not have a normal pregnancy secondary to your previous tummy tuck. Both your skin and abdominal muscles will stretch to accomodate your pregnancy just as they are able to do so before your tummy tuck. All the best, Dr Repta

Tummy Tuck - My Stomach Still Very Tight After Tummy Tuck Some 5 Years Ago, Can I Still Have a Baby?

Probably yes - but you may need a secondary procedure afterwords to return your body to the shape it's in now. The first question is whether you are likely to be able to HAVE a pregnancy, and the answer to that is yes. I've had several patients who have become pregnant after having had tummy tucks, and I am unaware of any problems among them or within the literature. There are, of course, no guarantees, but the "pregnancy process" should not be inhibited by... more

Pregnancy after Tummy tuck.

I have had several patients who became pregnant after an abdominoplasty. Only one patient needed a small secondary lift for extra skin stretch just above the pubic area. You may expect additional stretch marks due to your tight skin. None of the patients had an overally stretched muscle repair that required a redo procedure. Enjoy the pregnancy. Good luck.

Pregnancy After a Tummy Tuck

Dear Sara, Pregnancy has a miraculous way of overcoming lots of body obstacles, including the tight closure of a tummy tuck. There is no reason to think that an abdominoplasty would prevent you from having future children. The success of your tummy tuck will mostly be stretched out by gestation, so most plastic surgeons recommend waiting until after you are done having children to have an abdominoplasty. Best of luck.

Pregnancy after tummy tuck

You should be able to have a normal pregnancy despite having had an abdominoplasty 5 years ago. Your abdominal wall will stretch to accommodate the growing baby. The numbness that you feel in your lower abdomen is typical after a tummy tuck and should not affect the pregnancy. You should, of course, inform your OB/GYN of your previous surgery. Since the pregnancy will stretch your skin and abdominal muscles, you may find that you have to have another tummy tuck after... more

Yes you can

But, you may want another tummy tuck after the baby is born. It will stretch out your stomach again.

Pregnancy After Tummy Tuck?

Thank you for the question. Despite a very tight and insensate abdomen after tummy tuck surgery you should be able to have a normal pregnancy ( from the post tummy tuck surgery standpoint). Your abdominal wall will be able to gradually expand as your uterus does. Please consult with a experienced OB/GYN physician to discuss your specific situation/anatomy. I hope this helps.
