I am currently 4 weeks post open rhino. My nose is still very swollen and the most swelling seems to be in my nostrils, tip and colemellar section. As the incision scars heal ive notice a hard white bump forming on the columellar scar. No pain or drainage just unsightly. I brought my concern to my plastic surgeon and he said to wait it out another month but that he has never had such a case. I am using bio oil scar treatment currently, other creams/oils i should be using? is this common?

It take around 6 weeks for the nasal bones and cartilage to set after a rhinoplasty. At that time, the nose is fairly strong but direct trauma could affect the area. At 6 months after surgery, the nose is stable and there should be little concern about water skiing or wake boarding....
The flap of columellar skin was elevated and the skin posterior to the incision (closer to your lip) was not. Thus the former skin is swollen and the latter is not. Therefore there is a slight 'step' at the incision line and this is due to swelling. All incisions look their worst around 6 weeks...
Dear Awess244, It sounds like you have some post operative swelling that needs to be checked by your surgeon. Your puppy should have nothing to do with your tip swelling. Take good care of your new puppy they are a family member and need lots of love. Best regards, Michael V. Elam, M.D.
