Is It Possible to Split Internal Stitches in the Breast After Reduction Surgery?

I am 33, 5'10 and had 900cc from EACH breast removed exactly one week ago. I wear a very light bra with some support per my MD's directions. Today, as I was walking inside, my right foot "missed" a step. This caused my bare foot to slip down and hit the hardwood floor pretty hard. My foot didn't hurt but IMMEDIATELY, I felt a sharp, hot, horrific pain in my right breast. Painful enough for me to gasp. Did I split an internal stitch? If so, can it be fixed? Did I "ruin" anything? Thanks.

Trauma after Breasts Reduction?

I'm sorry to hear about your fall after breast reduction surgery. Since you did sustain trauma and have legitimate concerns, I would suggest you see your plastic surgeon for direct physical examination to rule out complications. Best wishes for an otherwise uneventful recovery.

Did fall cause disruption of breast reduction repair?

Breast reductions are performed using a variety of techniques. In the case of a vertical reduction mammoplasty, it is possible you ruptured one of the sutures plicating the medial and lateral pillars. It is unlikely that this is the single solitary stitch supporting your repair but you would do best to report this to your surgeon.

Sharp Reduced Breast Pain after a Fall

Without an examination it is impossible to tell you what has really happened to your operated breast when you slipped. There are different Breast Reduction techniques; some involve internal stitching while others do not. A forceful jarringof the breast may pull tissues away from one another or pull on and possibly tear such sutures.Onlyyour surgeon who clearly knows what was done could understand what may have happened. I would call him and make an appointment. If your breast is larger and... more

Breast Reduction Recovery

Very hard to answer this question and I would recommend you see your plastic surgeon sooner than later.  Most surgeons sutures the skin closed with all internal suturing.  Where the breast is there is not much suturing done but some surgeons do do some kind of internal breast suturing. I would recommend following up with your surgeon. Good luck.
