Are Spironolactone and Tretinoin Bad for Me?

I am going into the military and was temporary disqualified when the MEPS doctor told me that I couldn't be on Spironolactone or any retinoids. He said I had to be off them for 3 months then I could be reevaluated. I was wondering why he would want me to be off of them, do these drugs cause something harmful that I do not know about? I understand getting off the pills but I don't see what harm using a topical cream could do that might disqualify me from the military.
