This is very unique to each individual and varies tremendously due to tehcnique, genetic tendencies, amount of fat extracted, skin type, location of fat extraction, use of liposuction, energy delivered, etc. Generally any lipoisuction procedure would likely take 3 months to achieve a stable result.

I recently had smartlipo done on my hips, inner thighs and bum. I have had significant bruising and swelling, more so than I had expected. I read on a number of internet postings that the bruising is minimal. I am bruised, sore and swollen and was very sore for the first 3 days. I am on day 4 now and the pain is more bearable. I would not say that this procedure completely eliminates bruises, as I have 2 big black bruises on the sides of my thighs. They are going down now and are turning yellow. I would just like to let other people know that the bruising with smartlipo is not insignificant. I am pleased with the results so far however.

I had smart lipo almost a week ago, and I felt like I was hit by a train as well. I'm still having a hard time moving around and nights are the worst. I have some swelling, and little bruising compared to a friend of mine that had lypo. I had five areas done, I think that was a lot at one time, but I'm glad it over. My abdominal area is the sorest. I still have some draining from a few areas. Keep some type of protection on your bed for more than a week. Also, buy 2 sets of compression garments, you will need them. If you had your inner thighs done, it is very normal for you pubic area to be swollen- there are incisions very close to that area. It's like childbirth, it was a lot of pain, but in the end it was all worth it.

I had smart lipo done 3 weeks ago on my abs and flanks. I'm not sure what your doctors did to you guys but, I went back to work the very next day. There is a bit of swelling which they should have explained to you before hand but, even with that it wasn't extreme at all. The compression bandage hid it all. The only discomfort I had felt like I had just worked out my abs. My doctor gave me pain pills to help but, I didn't take a single one. After a week I started using neosporin and the 4 entry points healed great. I am totally impressed with the way the operation turned out and would recommend it to anyone as long as they go with the right doctor.

I have just booked to have this procedure (with aspiration) on my "love handles," saddlebags & inner thighs. I was told it may be a little uncomfortable but not painful and certainly not obvious afterwards with bruising/swelling. After reading these comments I am petrified and considering canceling. Has anyone had a good experience???

Thank you so much for your comments Efcaz. It's a couple of weeks away yet so I'm doing all the research I can, only the place I'm having it doesn't have a testimonials tab on the webpage. I really don't know what to do. I didn't think there was any pain involved. The doctor told me he has never had a patient unable to drive home after an hour or so! I'm really worried about any pain during the procedure as I'm not good with anything like that & can tend 2 have black outs. I'd rather be put to sleep to be honest, that doesn't bother me. Do you know of any other good forums/websites to look on? Thanks. Saz.

Further to my initial post, I would like to advise that I have a very high pain threshold but still felt significant pain following Smart Lipo with aspiration. I was unable to walk around properly for 4 days and felt extremely stiff and sore. I took painkillers but still found it painful. I did not take any asprin, ibuprofen or green tea etc... in the days prior to the procedure. I took arnica tablets for 5 days pre and 10 days post procedure. I used ice packs for up to 3 days after the procedure. Additionally I used arnica cream for 2 weeks on the bruised areas to try to make it go down. Despite this, my bruising and swelling did not go down until 2 weeks later. My doctor explained everything to me about the process, swelling & bruising. In addition, I had done much self research on the topic before committing to going ahead with the procedure. In any communications I read on the topic, I was led to believe that there would be minimal side effects. I felt I was fully armed with the knowledge I required to proceed and was confident it would be a straight forward procedure. For me there were more significant side effects than they advertise. I wanted to post this to alert others. If you are having it done, I would research your doctor and how many procedures he/she has performed. It is possible that my negative experiences were down to the doctor. I am however pleased with the results, so from that perspective it is positive. Good luck Saz222

Hi Efcaz, I think I've already made my mind up. There are far too many people saying the opposite of what the clinic/s say and I'm not good with pain. I thought it would be a procedure no-one would even be able to tell I'd had done (no-one knows I have booked it) but I don't think this will be so. The doctor is also just a general practicioner that does this on the side and when I asked he said he'd performed around a hundred! That's not much considdering is it! He was a nice enough man but it was all quite rushed and didn't seem the most professional of appointments....I think the alarm bells were already ringig for me then. I'm not overweight by any means and the reason no-one knows I'm doing (or was going to do) this is because people would think I'm insane and talk me out of it. I'm just going to have to carry on with the exercise and healthy eating. It's also a hell of a lot of money to waste and I was getting a deal because of the "credit crunch" my doctor said! I'm still going to have a look on that website (thanks) and possibly see if I can find anyone who knows of the doctor at all. I am in the UK- up North so look out for me on there. Thanks again. I'm so glad I found this site!

Yes, I have 100% made my mind up, I am not going to have this done - not now anyway. It's obvious I wouldn't be able to hide it and just thinking about being awake through it all can send me in to a panic. If you had a really experienced surgeon & still had the experience you did, there's no hope for me with a GP! I will have another look on the other site, it was probably me rushing! I'll still be really interested to hear from you in a few weeks though to see how you're results are shaping up etc... Thanks again & good luck.
