When can I expect results from Smart Lipo and Mesotherapy?

I had Smart Lipo on my saddlebags 3 months ago. When I went in for my post-op 2 weeks ago, the doctor said he can see that the area still hasn't taken all the way. He performed Mesotherapy on my thighs, which was very painful and not worth it. I still have the part of my thigh sticking out, but I wanted that area flat. Is it still to early for me to see my results? If so, when should I expect to see some results? Should I talk about touching the area up with him again?

A: You are probably still swollen from Mesotherapy

Kenneth R. Francis, MD

Shelly, You are probably still swollen from the Mesotherapy. Also, one treatment of mesotherapy does not usually do much. It takes several sessions spaced 2-4 weeks apart to get a result. See your treating physician for more mesotherapy if you can tolerate it. Good luck!

Smart Lipo works well and results are normally looking good at 2 to 4 weeks, although the total healing may be up to 4 months. It is unlikely your results will improve much at this point. Ask your Lipo surgeon how many cc's of fat he actually removed. It should be a significant volume. You should talk to him or her to arrange a touch-up, although this is not normally done until 6 months. Mesotherapy on the thighs is very painful with about a 50% success rate, ie success being defined as improvement. It will take at least 4 weeks to see results, and may take as much as 8 weeks. Good luck.

Hi shelly62366, The first question I have for you is did your surgeon do any actual removal of fat after the lasering?  Without actual removal of the fat after the lasering, the results tend to be not very satisfactory (personal experience).  That's why most surgeons nowadays, including myself, will actively remove the fat after lasering. Regarding Mesotherapy, I can only give you my personal experience.  I have seen good results with it only about 20% of the time.  And unfortunately, there really is no good method of identifying patients who will react well to the procedure.  Bottomline is that minimally invasive/non-invasive procedures do not carry as great as a risk as more aggressive procedures; but the trade off is that results are much less predictable as well.  I hope the person you went to is a trained surgeon in liposuction so that he/she may properly remove the fat to help you achieve the results you are looking for.  Best of luck!
