Sleeping bra : Old wives tale or not?

There is very little scientific data here so much of the controversy is the result of personal opinion, conjecture and anectodal reports. Having said that, it is my belef that the long term use of a sleep bra, especially in a patient who is prone to breast sagging with moderate to large sized implants, wil result in a lowered incidence of recurrent breast sagging and ptosis. see video

Bra Use Helpful?

Despite the numerous strong opinions in regards to the use of bras, there is no evidence one way or another that the use of bras are useful. Nevertheless, intuitively it makes sense to use it while you are upright ( to counteract the effects of gravity etc.). Best wishes.

Sleeping in a bra is totally optional

Sleeping in a bra is totally optional with or without breast surgery.  Certainly in the first few days to weeks after breast surgery many patients find it more comfortable to keep their bra on most of the time during the healing process (including during sleep), which may help to reduce discomfort, early swelliing and support the breast tissues during the initial healing phase.  In the long term, sleeping with a bra will have no bearing on the "sagginess" or... more

Should I sleep in a bra after breast augmentation?

Yes. Yes, Yes, Yes, Yes, Yes, Yes, Yes! Bigger breasts mean heavier breasts. Gravity pulls more on heavier things. Just because you are lying down doesn't mean you are affected less by gravity. A properly fitted and sized bra will make you more comfortable, and be more supportive, giving you better long term results.

Sleeping in a bra helps breasts stay youthful!

Sorry to disagree with your friend's mother, but these are the things that make breasts "saggy":    1) Having big breasts. The bigger they are, the more gravity affects them!    2) Getting fat. Since part of the breast is comprised of fat, breasts enlarge if you enlarge. See #1 above.    3) Getting pregnant. (Even if you don't breast feed) your breasts will enlarge with the hormonal changes associated with pregnancy. See #1... more

Sleeping in a bra does NOT make Breast Saggy

Regarding : "Sleeping in Bra  i dont mean sleeping in a bra before surgery. my friends mom told me that sleeping in bras makes them more saggy when i get older so i just wondered if that was true ?" Urban legends get better all the time. 1. Sleeping in a bra may be more uncomfortable but it does NOT cause sagging of the breasts. 2. "Getting older" IS associated with sagging of the breasts and other parts of the face and body. Dr. Peter Aldea... more

Sleep in a bra to prevent sagging?

There isn't a lot to go on with this question but someone once did a study on twins, and the one who slept in a bra had less sagging over time. That makes sense to me since more support should mean less stretching of the ligaments in the breast that hold it up, so it is probably a good idea.
