Hi! I have an upcoming breast reduction and was wondering when you start putting the silicone sheets for scarring on after surgery? Also what is the best brand? What bra do you recommend after surgery? I know this is a lot of questions but I just want to do all I can to heal properly and minimize scars. Also Id appreciate any other tips you have. Thanks in advance for answering!

Post Op Bra and Scar Treatment after Breast Reduction Surgery

Thank you for your question. You would be best served by speaking to your surgeon to see what he/she recommends and when you should start applying the scar treatment. I ask patients to wear the surgical bra for 4 weeks and then go to a soft sports bra. My patients use Hybrisil Scar Treatment which has silicone and steroid and has shown good results. Again, I highly recommend that you follow your surgeon's recommendations as he/she knows your situation the best. Best... more

Bra and silicone sheeting after reduction

I do not recommend a specific bra other than a lose one with no underwire for about 6-8 weeks. I also do not routinely recommend silicone sheeting but I do recommend paper tape on the incisions for 6 weeks.

As Dr Otto Joseph Placik, MD - Chicago Plastic Surgeon, states it is a time dependent usage not a branding product issue. Discuss with your chosen surgeon.

Silicone sheeting and breast reduction scars.

Probably the most important issue with silicone sheets is the compliance (wearing at least 12 hours a day for 4 months) rather than the specific brand. I am not aware of any study which has completed a side by side comparison of silicone sheeting.
