Is Silicone Gel Safe to Use Near the Eyes?

I have a scar at the corner of my eye, between my upper and lower eyelid, that is slightly raised. I was told that laser treatment for scar removal can't be done because the scar is too close to my eye and was near a cosmetic eyeliner tattooed area. My eye doctor told me to use Vitamin E oil from the capsule, or silicone gel. I bought Dermatix Ultra scar treatment and it said not to use near eyes, and I want to know if it is safe to use on my scar as long as it doesn't get into the eye.

Silicone gel for eyelid and facial scars

Silicone gel has specific applications for hypertrophic and keloid scars on the face and body. Patients should use silicone based products on a daily basis and avoid recurrent trauma or inflammation in the area. Silicone gel products should not be used on mucous membranes, be ingested, or used on the eyes. Be careful with application near the eye and always follow the product instructions with use.

Silicone gel is okay to use on scars near eye if used properly

Silicone gel is safe to use around the eye and in fact has FDA approval to be injected into the eye (Silikon 1000). However, you should avoid putting anything directly into the eye and there may be other reasons why this specific product should not be used near your eye. There are many different prepartations of silicon gels and you may want to discuss these with your physician.
