I'm considering having my silicone implants redone and have it set behind the muscle. Will my breasts still feel as soft and bouncy when they are behind the muscle wall?

Submuscular conversions

I always place implants under the muscle in my patients. They will look excellent and feel very natural. If you do not have a specific problem with your implants above the muscle such as a capsular contracture, I would just stay in the same pocket since you already have one. There is much less recovery in this case.

Breast implants

If you are having problems with your silicone implants because the overlying breast and skin are thin, then placing them under the muscle is a good option. Yes, they will fell natural, but the breast may move a bit differently under the muscle.

Don't fix it if it isn't broken.

If there is nothing wrong with your current implants, then why change the out? If you are only changing the size, then I would recommend keeping them in the same pocket. Implants under the muscle can but very natural feeling, but if your implants are fine now, then I would leave them how they are.

Natural feel with behind the muscle implant placement

Ellie, Breast implants feel very natural behind the muscle. The question is, why are you exchanging them? If they look and feel natural where they are now, leave them there. You can only go to the well so many times.  ave future operations for when you really need them. Good luck!

If your breasts feel soft and bouncy now, leave the implants where they are!

You don't say why you are having another operation.  Clearly, you like the feel of your breasts now.  So if you just want to change shape or size, you don't have to go under the muscle.

Absolutely natural feel with behind the muscle placement

Hi there, I don't think there is any reason for you to be concerned that your breasts will feel less natural behind your chest muscle. The biggest contributor to the feel of the breasts is the type of implant used. With silicone implants, the breasts are usually soft and quite natural in feel, with low risk of palpability. Hope that helps.

Implants can look and feel very natural under the muscle, but you need thorough assessment of breast

This is not an easy question to answer wtihout knowing exactly what was done with the implants at your first operation and why you are having the surgery redone and the reasons you have now chosen to have the implants placed under the pectoral muscle. In general, implants can feel very natural and be mobile and soft, under the muscle. As far as "mobility" or "excursion" of the implant, which is what you describe as "bouncy", it is probably most important... more

Implants behind muscle should feel natural

When placed behind the muscle, the implants will initially feel firmer, and likely be higher up than when placed in front of the muscle, due to spasm. Over several weeks, the implants drop and soften. They should feel very natural, and have a nice bounce to them. Remember also, that the bounce will be due not only to the implant, but also to your natural breast tissue. However, what is the reason for the re-do? If you have contractures, that may temper the answer. Another possibility is... more

Implants behind muscle generally stay softer longer

Implants behind the muscle generally stay softer for a longer time than implants over the muscle (i.e. lower incidence and severity of capsular contracture). 'Bounciness" is another matter. The implants tend not to move quite as natural although they still might "bounce" to a degree. Of course, when you contract the pectoralis muscle, the implant may distort or become firm and relatively fixed until you relax your muscles.

Submuscular breast implants feel soft and natural

Submuscular breast implants should feel very natural. Often, a submuscular implant will be less palpable than a subglandular breast implant and thus feel more natural. The key is an excellent operation by an experienced board certified plastic surgeon. An improperly done breast augmentation may develope a capsular contraction or a poor implant position, and if this occurs you will not have a good result in either location. Statistically submuscular implants are less palpable and more... more
