It's been 6 weeks after my rhinoplasty and I am extremely unhappy with my nose and I'm afraid to say something to my doctor because he keeps insisting it's nice but I hate it! Everyone talks about how they are so happy after 6 weeks but I am extremely upset and wishing I never did it because my nose doesn't look any better. Will there be a significant between now and a year that will make my nose look better?

Nasal Changes Between 6 Weeks and 1 Year after Surgery

Your nose will change over the next 6-9 months - how much depends on what was done during the operation. Share your concerns with your surgeon, now and over the next 6 months. If you're are still dissatisfied as healing progresses ask about a revision and/or get a second opinion.

Changes from 6 weeks to a year post Rhinoplasty

It is difficult to render an opinion without proper photos.  That being said, Rhinoplasty can be challenging.  Your nose is not made of wood or stone.  There is interaction between hard tissue, (bone), cartilage and skin.  The lymphatics also seem to be particular in this area of the body.  This can all effect swelling and how the tissue settles.  While you may see some improvement in six weeks, noses often stay swollen until a year later.  Keep... more

Wait on Rhinoplasty Results

6weeks may be a reasonable amount of time for the result of most surgeries to reveal themselves but NOT rhinoplasty.  Rhinoplasty result are best evaluated critically after one year.  Try to be patient. Dr. ES

Changes in nose after rhinoplasty between 6 weeks and 1 year

There are so many variables that can affect how long it takes a nose to "settle" after rhinoplasty.  These include thickness of the skin, type of problem preop, the surgical approach, etc.  I would not compare your recovery to others, as everyone is different, especially when it comes to the nose.  In answer to your question, there can be fairly substantial changes between 6 weeks and 1 year.  Please be patient and ask these specific questions of your surgeon.... more

Communication is Best

Hi Anon in LA , Your nose should continue to change over the next few months.  If you are very unhappy with your nose, your surgeon should be made aware of your unhappiness.  The best rhinoplasty result is when both the surgeon and the patient love the nose.  The next best result is when the patient likes their nose but the surgeon is unhappy.  In your case, the best thing that you can do is express your unhappiness, and have a direct discussion with your surgeon... more

Rhinoplasty at 6 weeks

Hi, At 6 weeks you should have minimal swelling that may take a up to a year to resolve. However if there are major issues at 6 weeks then you may want to consider a revision. Best, Dr.S.

Rhinoplasty Results Can Take A Year

It really can take 6-12 months before all the changes are finished, so i would just be patient.  At 6 weeks out, you are still swollen.  Just be patient and try not to think about it too much.  Reassessyoursel at 6 months and then go from there.

Noses change over 6-12 months.

If you are unhappy with your nose ask your doctor what you can probably expect in 6 months. If at that time you are still unhappy find out what he recommends to change it. If you are not satisfied with the answer get a second opinion. No surgery should be done for at least 6 months.

Please submit pictures

In six weeks 80-90% of the swelling is gone and you may have residual swelling of the tip. Please send pictures .
