I had septoplasty done for my C shaped septum a year back. The doctor only straightened the front part of the septum .The back and upper part of the septum is still deviated to the right with a septal spur. Now i have chronic nasal dryness which is getting worse day by day. Will removing the septal spur and a revision septoplasty solve the problem.I have dryness on both nostrils.

Nasal dryness not from septal spur

The dryness is not caused from the septal spur.  There is a large bone spur present in the bony ethmoid portion of the septum which needs to be removed.  This is clearly causing nasal obstruction and can be a cause for headaches.  In addition, there are polyps noted in both maxillary sinuses that should be addressed at the same time by removing them.  A septoplasty will address those 2 issues but not the dryness.  A rhinoplasty is only done for cosmetic purposes.   more

Septal Spur and Dryness

I doubt it will increase the moisture of the nasal mucosa...you might want to have a full examination and work up to rule out nasal airborne allergies with an ENT surgeon or an allergists.  Septoplasty is typically performed to increase the airflow through the nose by removing a cartilage and or bony obstruction.

Nasal Dryness

Hi, There are many reasons for nasal dryness. Fixing the septal spur may improve you airflow through your nose which in turn may improve the humidification of the air entering your nose but it is not a guarantee. So you may want to try conservative measures before doing a revision septoplasty. Best, Dr.S.
