Scars from Dermatillomania
Hello Doctors, I'm an india girl of wheatish complexion suffering from Skin Picking Disorder. I don't scratch myself anymore but I have a lot of scars on my legs. These scars are dark on the outside and light inside. There are some new black scars but most of them are brown. Me doctor is giving me chemical peeling and hair reduction through laser (she argues it's necessary for pigmentation). Please tell me, Am I on the right track? Will there be a day my skin is scar free? Please advice. Nishta

Congratulations on your progress. I've just figured out that I have this disorder, dermatillomania. I've always known I had a problem, but could not define it. I am 30 years old and my legs look like yours, except I still scratch and mine are constantly infected so they look even worse than yours. But I very recognize very well the kind of scaring. At first glance I might have thought this was a picture of my own legs. I'm glad to find out I'm not alone with this problem, and seeing that you were afflicted so severely and have overcome it (I see no open sores, only scars on your legs) gives me hope. Can you tell me what kind of treatment helped you? Thank you.
