Scared of Anesthesia for Mommy Makeover

I'm a mother of 4 (11, 9, 3, and 4 months) and am in need of a mommy makeover. I am 30yr old/ 5'5 160lbs. I am looking into getting a breast lift and aug, arm lift, tummy tuck and lipo and upper inner thigh lift. Should I have a this done at once or break it up into two surgeries? I am scared to be put to sleep and that I will die. Should I be worried? And what do you suggest for the timing of the procedures? Thanks so much!

Scared of Anesthesia for Mommy Makeover

The risk of anesthesia in an otherwise healthy 30 year old female is very low but not zero. You can keep this risk at a minimum by not trying to accomplish to much on one day. I would not schedule a patient for outpatient cosmetic procedures lasting more than four hours, and so I suggest that you plan to do these procedures on two different days.

Scared about mommy makeover

The typical mommy makeover involves breast rejuvenation and tummy tuck, with some liposuction over the hip and thigh if needed. Adding an arm lift and inner thigh lift, or 'more' liposuction creates a worry. Not about the anesthesia, but the risk of complications such as DVT and serious infection. Staging your procedures only makes sense. Even your surgeon will have a hard time focusing for the best result with each procedure. I worry about your children too. Best of luck... more

Mommy makeover

According to your BMI you are over weight. Loose about 15 LB. This will decrease your risks. What decreases your risks also is a full clearance by your internist, includes complete history and exam, and full blood work. Choosing the appropriate surgeon, and anesthesiologist (Both should be Board Certified ) Plan to decrease your risks for blood clots. Your best results will come from tummy tuck and lipo of the hips, flanks and medial thigh. Medial thigh may or may not need a... more

Anesthesia for mommy makeover.

I understand your concern.   As long as you let your surgeon's office know about your ENTIRE health history and habits and you have a clean health history, you have nothing to worry about.  #1 reason not to worry is that if you are going to a board certified anesthesiologist, they will let you know the maxumum time you can go under general anesthesia.  You will be carefully monitored.

Mommy Makeover Safety?

Thank you for the question. Your concerns are natural and commonly experienced prior to surgery. Assuming you are working with a board certified plastic surgeon and board-certified anesthesiologists in a fully accredited surgery center/hospital ( and have had medical clearance prior to surgery) you will be extremely likely to have a safe procedure. If I were you I would break up the planned procedures into 2 stages. I hope this helps.

Scared of anesthesia

It's normal and common to be a little fearful of anesthesia. But modern anesthesia, with a well-trained board-certified MD anesthesiologist or CRNA in attendance is very safe, when done in an accredited surgical facility. Most people have a very smooth wake-up from anesthesia, with a very low risk of issues or problems, provided their state of health is good. You have an extensive list of procedures that you would like to have. Try to prioritize these, as it... more

Anesthesia is safe for cosmetic procedures

As long as you're having your procedure done by qualified individuals, eg board certified anesthesiologists and plastic surgeons, you should be in good hands.

Breast Augmentation, Breast Enlargement, Breast Implants

There are pumpers and splitters in the world.  Some surgeons would combine everything and some would do as separate procedures.  There is risk involved as the time under anesthesia increases.  We are concerned about DVT.  Just be careful and remember this is all elective surgery.  There is always tomorrow.

Anesthesia fears

WOW! That is a lot of surgery to be done at once. If you were my patient, I would determine during your consultation visit which procedures could be safely combined in a staged manner. Experience matters. With the number of procedures you are contemplating, seek a board certified plastic surgeon who uses a board certified anesthesiologist. This should help minimize your anesthesia concerns. Don’t forget to review his before and after photos as well. Good luck!  ... more

Mommy maker: how much to do at once?

Your physician has your safety as a priority. Depending on where he/she operates ( office or hospital setting); level of experience; how much risk you and they are willing to take; and your goals and priorities all play a factor in determining what is the best option for you. Unfortunately, any procedure carries its risk. A frank and thorough conversation about this is an essential component of any consultation.

Timing and Anesthesia Risks for Mommy Makeover

I recommend staging your mommy makeover.   I would start off by addressing the breast augmentation with lift and tummy tuck with flank lipo in one setting.    This can be performed in less than 6 hours, which is very safe in a healthy patient.     I recommend an overnight stay to ensure you are comfortable and receive plenty of fluids, pain medication, and antibiotics.     At 3-6 months,  I feel it is safe to proceed with a 2nd contouring... more

Mommy Makeover

No need to be "scared," just continue learning more about the procedure(s) you are considering.  Whether or not they can all be done at one sitting depends on the degree of correction needed in each area.  For safety, be sure your procedure is scheduled in a fully accredited surgery center or office operating facility (or even hospital).  All members of the American Society of Plastic Surgeons must operate only in such facilities, so seeing an ASPS surgeon... more

Mommy makeover, how much surgery should be done at once

I would definitely break up those procedures into two different days for a variety of reasons. The main reason is for safety and to reduce the incidence of developing a blood clot in your legs-deep vein thrombosis (DVT).  I would do the tummy tuck and your breasts on one day followed several weeks later by the thigh and arm lift.  Please obtain medical clearance from your primary care physician prior to scheduling this type of surgery. Consult with a board certified plastic... more

General Anesthesia Safety

Multiple procedures can be safely performed in one setting. But it depends on your health status (past medical history), your anatomy, and the amount of surgery/type of procedures to be done. Please visit with a board certified plastic surgeon for a formal evaluation. He/she will determine the how long it will take and whether you are a safe/good candidate for these combined procedures.  General anesthesia is very safe as long as it is performed by a anesthesia specialist and in an... more

Mommy makeover

I think that combining all that surgery in one day is way too much. You are better off staging it.  It would probably be safer.

Anesthesia concern for mommy makeover

Mommy makeover is done very frequently.  The procedure is done safely as long as 1) you are healthy, 2) done by an experienced board-certified plastic surgeon, 3) done at an accredited facility, 4) done by an experienced anesthesiologist.   In terms of timing for you surgery, in order to have the optimal result, you want to be 1) ideal weight, 2) stable weight for at least 3-6 months, 3) not breast feeding. For extent of surgery, you should limit your surgery to 6-8 hours... more

Mommy makeover - tummy tuck and breast lift/breast implants

Your concerns are valid but if you do everything right i.e. pick the right surgeon, have surgery in an accredited facility, follow the instructions after surgery etc the risks are quite minimal. Thousands of people around the world have this surgery every day and wake up after surgery without any problems. Your surgery list is too long/too much for a single procedure and probably unsafe. Looking at that photos I am not sure you need arm and inner thigh lifts. I do not think the minimal... more

Anesthesia for a mommy makeover

You are biting off too much surgery and I'd skip the arm and thigh lifts because you won't like the scars for what little excess you have.  Do the breasts and abdomen in one operation in an accredited surgoen's office OR or in a surgery center with qualified anesthesai personel.

Mommy makeover very safe.

Hi. You should only do tummy tuck and breasts together, and do arms and thighs at another stage. Then this is very safe. Doing everything together too much, and not safe.

Mommy Makeover is Safe to do

Don't worry!  The combination of procedures that you describe is very common.  When done by an experienced surgeon on a healthy patient, you are perfectly safe.  You can even have all this done with twilight anesthesia and not worry about being "put to sleep" at all!  Let you doctor examine you and help you decide what needs to be and what can be done at one time.
