I have a cyst on the back of my head that needs to be removed. I have not been to a doctor in 14 years. I was wondering how much it would cost, the different in cost between doctor types, and where I should visit first. Regards,

Answer: Cyst removal Hello and thank you for your question. If the cyst causes you discomfort you can have it removed and insurance should cover for it. You can consider seeing a surgeon or a dermatologist for the procedure. It will be better if you get a referral from your primary care provider to see a specialist. If you want to pay out of pocket then you can see a surgeon directly without a referral.

Answer: #Lipoma (Pilar cyst removal) If you have the option to go directly to the surgeon who will be able to take care of this, that will save you some time. If, however, you plan on using your insurance for this and will need to see your primary care physician first for a referral then you'll have to do it that way.Better to save a step if that's an option for you!I hope that this helps and good luck,Dr. Alan EnglerMember of RealSelf100
