I would like to have an alar base reduction. I am happy with my profile but feel my nose and nostrils are too wide. How do I find a surgeon that specializes in alar base reduction as well as asian noses in CA? I seem to get conflicting information- some doctors say one can just do an alar base reduction while others state that likely things like the tip need to be worked on during a reduction. Could you please help?
Answer: Alar base reduction only? Alar base reduction only? When you change the alar width you may have the remaining nose look to wider. Therefore you should see a very experienced surgeon who can give you the answer. Without photographs or examination I cannot give you any more information

CONTACT NOW Answer: Who is a Rhinoplasty Expert? Plastic Surgeons, Facial Plastic Surgeons, ENT Surgeons, and Oral-Maxillofacial Surgeons all have training in Rhinoplasty. A true expert is a surgeon who has a focus on rhinoplasty and has performed many cases (more than 100). Its hard to comment on your needs without photos. I have rarely performed just alae reduction/nostril reduction, but I suppose it could be possible. Seek a few opinions. All the Best,Dr. Brian Reagan

Answer: Rhinoplasty specialist There is no such thing as an alar base reduction specialist. Look for a very busy rhinoplasty surgeon who has dedicated a significant part of their practice to the discipline of rhinoplasty. All busy rhinoplasty surgeons perform lots of the alar base reductions.

Answer: Alar pasty vs tip rhinoplasty versus both It's a little difficult to comment on your needs without photograph but in general alar plasty or alar base reduction as a standalone procedure can be performed with a high degree of satisfaction without tip rhinoplasty. However, there are certainly times when I feel both must be performed together. Obviously, you can imagine if the alar base or with of the nose is produced then the tip by proportion may start to look larger. There's often no perfect answer but in my practice which is majority Asian facial plastics I perform Alar plasty or alar base reduction all the time. Patients are satisfied with the results they get with the reduction alone but a significant number do you need both tip rhinoplasty and alar base reduction.I think it is fair to say that often you can have the alar plasty or alar base reduction by itself and later if tip rhinoplasty is needed then you can move on with the additional procedure.Chase Lay MDAsian facial plastic specialist and double

Answer: Alar base reduction specialist Hello Anna,Rather than look for an alar base reduction specialist, I think that it is more important to find an experienced rhinoplasty surgeon. Within the Bay Area, I would trust my colleagues and friends Dr. David Kim (downtown SF), and Dr. Sam Most (Palo Alto). Both are excellent surgeons with high volume rhinoplasty practices.Good luck,Michael Kim, MD
