I've done my research on peels, but I want to know, using a 40% glycolic peel properly, will my face look irritated that its embarrassing to go out in public the very next day? even if I moisturize well. I'm a student and always have to be around people in school. I just want to know if my face will attract attention and make me self conscious around people immediately after I do it the next day.

When you shave and then apply acid it goes in much deeper and can be a problem. For now, apply Vaseline on moist skin to remain on as long as possible at night and apply 1% hydrocortisone twice daily. in the future i suggest you have a medical professional do your peels instead of doing them...
It will take at least a month and perhaps 6 weeks to notice any change although you dont say what you are looking to achieve. It will be subtle but keep it up and it will continue to improve with time
