How Long Does It Take for Rhinoplasty Stitches to Dissolve?

How long does it take dissolving stitches to dissolve? It's been almost 3 weeks since my surgery and they are still there.

Sutures after rhinoplasty

How long sutures persist depends on the type of the suture, the thickness and where they are placed. First, ask your surgeon what type of sutures were used and when they will dissovle. Usually, mositure helps them dissolve faster. Sutures placed deep in tissues are not visible and dissolve in 3-6 months (monocryl, PDS). Some of the faster dissolving sutures like chromic, fast gut or plain gut should go away in 2 weeks. Thanks.

Suture duration after rhinoplasty

Hi, It depends on the suture type and thickness. Obviously, some sutures are permanent. The ones that are actually absorbable have an "average" life span. Vicryl, Chromic, Monocryl, PDS, Plain gut, Fast absorbing gut are some of the dissolvable sutures used in rhinoplasty. Most should be gone by 6 months especially in a moist area. You can find out from your doctor what kind of suture he/she used and what size and that can give you more information. Ask him or her and you... more
