Is Rhinoplasty Safe After Accutane?

I need to know if taking Accutane means that you can never have cosmetic surgery, and if you know anyone that has had successful cosmetic surgery after taking Accutane.

Minimum of 2 years.

It probably would be OK in 1 year for a nose and 2 years for resurfacing. But I'm very conservative and would wait the extra year.

Discontinue Accutane for at least 6 months before rhinoplasty

It is probably safe to have a rhinoplasty after being off Accutane for six months. The only contraindication for Accutane is undergoing a dermabrasion. One must wait at least a year prior to embarking on that procedure. All other cosmetic surgery is safe after six months of being off Accutane.

Cosmetic Surgery after Accutane

We have all done cosmetic surgery after accutane therapy. However it is safest to wait 6 to 12 months after treatment because the medication may interfer wth wound healing. Be sure to advise your surgeon how much and how long you used the Accutane.

Accutane and Surgery

Accutane may impede healing while taking it and for 6-12 months after stopping the medication. The real unknown is what effect it might have on wound healing after 12 months. At this point in time most of us will proceed with surgery including resurfacing procedures like CO2 laser resurfacing and Rhinoplasty after 12 months, but we might proceed a bit more cautiously.
