I believe I want someone who has performed good or successful rhinoplasties versus a surgeon who has performed hundreds or thousands which are mediocre, which I've seen. What are the most important things I should look for when choosing a surgeon for nose work? What should I avoid?

Choosing the right rhinoplasty surgeon.
The best way to find a good plastic surgeon is one who has a large amount of experience and whose noses you find attractive. Most plastic surgeons who are very experienced and do hundreds of noses per year but may have noses that looks surgical to you. If you like that type you should choose that type of surgeon. If however you like natural looking noses look at the surgeons work to see if he does this type. Or better yet see his live patients at one year post operative.

Things to AVOID when choosing a rhinoplasty surgeon
Many good suggestions are already mentioned here, but here are some things to AVOID:
1) If a surgeon's photo gallery is 90% breast augmentation (for example) with only a couple rhinoplasty photos, you can bet that his/her focus, interest, and expertise is not with nose.
2) If a surgeon doesn't offer some sort of digital imaging, look elsewhere. It's important to be on the same wavelength aesthetically with your surgeon regarding your nose. Moving pixels is easy....

Finding the right rhinoplasty surgeon
It is important to look for a surgeon who has extensive experience in the field of rhinoplasty and has many before and after photos you like. The rhinoplasty operation is the single hardest procedure to perform in the field of cosmetic surgery. Look for a surgeon who is dedicated to performing thousands of rhinoplasty surgeries. That type of a surgeon most likely has a background in otolaryngology, head and neck surgery and in facial plastic surgery. Find a surgeon who is board...

Choosing a Rhinoplasty Surgeon
Choosing the right Surgeon for Rhinoplasty is a difficult task for a prospective patient, but relies on a number of time tested fundamentals.
Do your research: Ask local Doctors, hairdressers, friends, and neighbors about the Surgeon they would recommend. Rhinoplasty is probably the most difficult procedure in Facial Plastic Surgery; it demands a combination of technical skill, experience, and good judgment.
Trust your gut feeling: Take time to note the...

Choosing your Surgeon for Rhinoplasty
There are many issues that go into making an individual choice like this. Cost, geography, and comfort/trust are probably the 3 most important issues in the majority of patients.
First, you should like the results that the surgeon shows you. Typically, this is what the individual surgeon considers to be his or her best work. Photos are available online and in most offices. If someone recommends a surgeon but you don't like their result, then move on.
If you like the work...

Rhinoplasty surgeons
You are a thousand percent correct. A good quality surgeon is board certified, gets great results, and is available to his patients. That is a start. Do not always go by the photos on the web, because many patients do not allow their photos to be shown. See the doctor in person and go over your concerns, and then look at his/her work. Good luck.

How do you find the right rhinoplasty surgeon? Look at their results!
Rhinoplasty is one of the trickiest surgeries to perform. Your best bet is to look at the surgical results of other patients. Consult with a few different surgeons and see where you feel the most comfortable. Make sure the surgeon understands your aesthetic goals for your nose. Also, it is not unreasonable to ask for one of their patients to call you to answer questions about undergoing the procedure and describe their experience. I agree with you, don't ask "how many of these...

Finding the Right Rhinoplasty Surgeon
I think it should be relatively easy to find a good surgeon to perform your rhinoplasty. All Plastic Surgeons and Otolaryngologists(ENT) have had exposure to Nasal Surgery in their training programs. Once in practice however many doctors will direct their attention to areas other than Rhinoplasty. Even board certification is not an absolute guarantee of competency in Rhinoplasty. I would be cautious in choosing a surgeon who is new in practice unless he/she convinces you of his expertise...

Tips on picking a Plastic Surgeon
Tips on picking a Plastic Surgeon
1) Is the surgeon a member of the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery? Members usually do a lot of cosmetic surgery.
2) Did you sense a commitment to excellence in the office. Did the surgeon spend a lot of time with you? Someone who rushes through the consultation may rush through the surgery.
3) Were you treated as an individual? Did the surgeon present you with a surgical plan tailor made for you?
4) Plastic surgeons have to...

Finding the right surgeon for Rhinoplasty
Arrange a consultation or consultations with a board certified Plastic surgeon(s). Patient /doctor empathy, ability to listen and come up with a focused, logical treatment plan are key. Pre and post op pix are very helpful in evaluating a surgeon's technique and aesthetic insight.
These should be cases that the doctor has done showing his(hers) insights into various problems. I personally, don't believe in computer imaging.
