Rhinoplasty and Eyelid Surgery with Medial Epicanthus Correction?

Is it advisable to get Rhinoplasty (nose bridge enlargement) and double Eyelid surgery with medial epicanthus correction at the same time or should they be done separately? If separately, how long to wait in between and which procedure do you get first? Thanks.

Acceptable to have both procedure done at same time

It is acceptable to have both eyelid and nasal surgery done at the same time, and there should be no complications between the two. It is probably best to have them done simultaneously because the anesthesia cost and the recuperation phase will all be at one setting.

Very impressed by the quality of the responses from my colleagues!

Dear Hyannis My colleagues are right on the money recommending that you first have your rhinoplasty. This may very definitely affect the appearance of the epicanthal folds. You may or may not feel compelled to have epicanthal fold surgery. I do a lot of Asian eyelid surgery. My best advise is to leave the epicanthal fold alone. Unfortunately, epicanthal fold surgery is not hidden. The scars and how the fold brakes following surgery is often unacceptable at best. Some patients who... more

Staging the two surgeries is better

My recommendation would be to do the rhinoplasty first and the the epicanthal folds. The bridge augmentation will likely change the shape at the medial canthus a slight amount. I would be fine with the double eyelid surgery at the same time, but would not do the epicanthoplasty right away. This may be more of a surgeon's preference, but it seems the majority of the responses have suggested the same. Good luck!

Rhinoplasty and epicanthus correction

Do the two seperately, or stage it as we say in plastic surgery.  The rhinoplasty will improve some of the flattening of the nasal bridge and this may impact the epicanthal region a bit.  Let it settle and then re-evaluate for the epicanthal treatment.

Staging of Blepharoplasty and Eyelid Epicanthus Surgery

The rhinoplasty may improve the epicanthus a little with dorsal elevation. Therefore, I would perform the augmentation rhinoplasty first. Whether it is advisable to performe both procedures together is another question. Epicanthoplasty is somewhat challenging in itself. Therefore, I would prefer staging the two to minimize the variables that effect your healing.

Etiology of medial epicanthal fold

Some folds are caused by excessive skin due to a flat nasal bridge. If you pinch the upper bridge of your nose skin gently and the fold disappears, the augmentation may help soften the fold so doing it in a second procedure might make more sense. Any surgery in the area will have permanent scars so be sure they are required.

Rhinoplasty and medial epicanthus surgery

I would recommend doing the proceedures seperatly . The epicanthus correction will lie near or under the post op splint and may be negativly effected. Periorbital swelling is also a concern. My preferecence is to do the rhinoplasty first and follow with the epicanthoplasty in 3 mos. when the swelling has subsided and you can see the new balence in your facial proportions
