I just had a Septoplasty done a few weeks ago and I want to get a Rhinoplasty done. I have had a e-mail from a surgeon in India willing to do the surgery at a good price, and he's also from a good company. How long should I wait before getting it done?

You would be making a mistake.

Patients should have surgery with an excellent surgeon--not an excellent price. My question would be why you have separated the two operations which are routinely done together. You should wait a minimum of 6 months before having the rhinoplasty.

Wait at least 3-4 months

It is probably best to wait at least three to four months before getting a rhinoplasty done after a septoplasty. This is to make sure that all of the swelling is down from the septoplasty so that one can operate appropriately on the nose. Make sure the doctor has done thousands of rhinoplasties before proceeding with the procedure and ask to see many of their before-and-after results of the specific surgeon who is performing your surgery.

Rhinoplasty; Vacation Surgery Not Usually a Very Good Idea

Hi Nabeela, Your question is frought with potential problems. I would advise against travelling to India for a "good price" on a surgery. You may just get what you pay for, and follow for any problems that result will be difficult to handle via email. It's your nose on the middle of your face for the rest of your life. Dr. P

Too bad ...

That you did not plan the septoplasty and rhinoplasty together as one procedure which certainly would have been my preference. These areas are so closely related that staging the two is suboptimal. Anyway, I would wait a minimum of 6 months (better 1 year) with the rhinoplasty. This may depend a little on your aesthetic concerns an how extensive the septoplasty procedure was but rather wait a little longer. Just an additional comment, I would not choose your rhinoplasty surgeon based on a... more
