When to Get Revision Surgery to Go Smaller and Correct Rippling of Breast Implants?

I recently posted re: rippling silicone implants; I am 4 weeks post-op. 492cc mod plus subpec. This was larger than expected in addition to visible rippling, revision is sure. when? I am 5'3", 110lb, thin upper body, athletic. I don't want to stretch out my already thin skin/tissues further. Prev 32b-c. POD 35.

Revision for rippling

You should wait a few months for the swelling to go down before considering a revision for rippling which may require alloderm.

The athletic woman and breast augmentation

Augmentation on a very athletic woman can be a challenge.  Because of a very athletic build placement of the implant beneath over the muscle is usually the answer.  If there is very thin tissue of the upper chest then the contours of the implant will be more noticeable regardless of build.  In my opinion it is best to wait between 3-6 months after your initial surgery to decide if revision is warranted and the best direction to take to solve the issue(s). Timing of Revision Breast Implant Surgery

Miscommunication is commonly the cause of most poor results in Plastic Surgery. A natural, attractive Breast Augmentation depends on a careful matching of your chest wall and the amount of breast tissue available to cover the implants. Your implants are simply too big and the reason for the rippling is that you do not have enough breast and muscle tissue to cover and hide the implants' folds. Ideally, you should wait 4-6 months to allow the tissues to be free of inflammation... more

Early Breast Revision

The implants do sound a bit on the bigger size for your body.  If you were my patient I would recommend waiting for about 4-6 months after surgery and re-evaluate things then.  It could be possible that at that point you may not want to do anything.  The less breast surgeries that are done through out your lifetime, the better your are off. It takes implants getting used to at times and when time has passed by you may be ok with the size. Good luck. more

Implant revision

The situation you are describing is the result of a thin skin envelope and breast tissue combined with a large implant. Silicone is better regarding rippliing than saline in this situation but as you are experiencing both implants can ripple. There are 3 solutions which you can consider but I would wait at least 6 months before proceeding. The first is using a dermal support to cover the space between the muscle and the chest wall. This adds support and covering which will... more

Revision of implants due to size and rippling

At fours weeks, the size and rippling will probably not improve in your judgment very much. However, sometimes it takes a patient a while to adapt to the implant situation. A breast that seems too big or too small may feel different to a patient some time later. You will aslo have to accept certain imperfections with the surgery and implant, rippling being one of them. Discuss all the possible side effects and complications so that you do not trade one problem for another that might be... more

How long to wait for downsizing implants and rippling correction

From your description, 492 does sound very large for an athletic person with your height and weight. It also sounds like yuo don't have much coverage which is why the rippling is more obvious. There are no hard and fast rules about how long to wait, but there are changes that occur in the tissues around the implants, so my recommendation is 6 months. At that point you can evaluate coverage as well as the possibility of animation problems with subpec implants in an athletic person.... more

RevisionTiming

I generally ask patients to wait at least three months before undergoing any sort of revision surgery.  You want the tissues to heal up and become as close to 100% strength as possible before re-injuring them.  It can take about three months to get to that point.

Timing of breast implant revision surgery

I typically would advise my patients to wait a minimum of 4 months to perform a breast implant revision procedure and commonly defer surgery for up to 9 months.
