I got a nose job done 2 years back, my nose was slightly flat and broad at the base. My surgeon inserted an implant. My bridge is raised.

However, now there is a bump where the implant ends (which is about 2 cm away from the tip if the nose). It looks bad and is a tell tale sign. What is the best way to fix it? How much would it cost?

Synthetic Implant Problems After Rhinoplasty

Visibility of the implant is one of many problems which can occur following use of synthetic implants in rhinoplasty. Others include extrusion through the skin, shifting, and infection. My preference is to use your own tissue (septal, ear, or in some cases, rib cartilage) to build up your bridge. I would consider having the implant removed and the bridge reconstructed with your own cartilage. Best wishes, Dr. Mehta

Nasal Implants

The implant has become more visible as the skin and soft tissue thin over time. In order to improve this outcome the impplant should be removed and replaced with your own native cartilage. The cartilage can come from either the nasal septum or bowl of the ear. implants have a long history of becoming infected, leading to skin damage and the need for removal.

Tip of implant.....

Hi, You are likely feeling the end of the implant. As time has passed and the swelling and scar tissue have resorbed, the end of the implant is probably more visible and certainly more palpable. Implants can shift, become extruded and if they are in long enough, often they become infected. The best way to tell what your definitively seeing or feeling is to be examined. If indeed the problem is what I described then the implant should be removed and replaced with your own natural... more

Nasal Implant

This is one of the major problems of nasal implants, and this can be a tough problem to solve. It may be possible for your surgeon to add more implant, such as Gore-tex, to complete the area left unfilled by the implant. Sometimes an injection of some type of filler agent i.e. Radiesse can help on a temporary basis. It may also be needed to have your implant removed and replaced with a longer one.

Remove or reposition implant

If the implant has shifted out of position it can be replaced with revision surgery but many times you are better off removing the implant and replacing with your own cartilage - typically from the rib.

Visible Nasal Implants

The implant has become visible as the swelling has resolved or the implant has moved. I prefer using the patients own tissue, rather than implant because of these potential problems. You have several alternatives; 1) Replace the implant, 2) Remove the implant and have the surgeon use your own cartilage or bone 3) Use temporary fillers such as radiesse to smooth out the irregularity. The problem with the last choice is the need for periodic repeat injections. If you have the time and... more
