2 months ago i had an abdominoplasty, which has been great - except the belly button. As you can see from the attached image, the surgical scar i have basically encircles the belly button, but doesn't incorporate with it at all - or it sort of looks like the outside edge of a big navel. the texture inside the circle tends to puff out before it goes back in at the center. plus, at times, the coloring of the skin inside the circle is more purple/dark than the outer skin. can this be repaired?

Pulsed dye laser for scars

Another technique for fresh red thick post-operative scars is to use the pulsed dye laser such as Candela's V Beam or Cynosure's Cynergy at 595 nm to soften the scars and reduce the redness.  It takes several sessions a few apart for best results.

Too early for a scar revision.

The scar around your navel is young by wound healing standards and needs to be given time to remodel.  This is highly variable and must be followed by your surgeon.   The vast majority of scars that look like yours do not need a revision given enough time.

Tummy tuck - abdominoplasty results

It is still early after your surgery so most of what you are seeing is likely residual swelling of the belly button. If it does not resolve or mostly resolve on its own in a few months I would suggest you return to your original surgeon for a touch up. Small revisions after abdominoplasty are common. Your best option at that time may be to break up the circular scar line because circular scars by their nature cause the skin contained within the circle to protrude outward. more
