Retinol Reaction

I started using a strong OTC retinol 5 weeks ago. 1). I have developed lines on my cheeks, particularly on the area close to my nose. When I smile they look crinkley. 2). Also, if I look closely in the mirror I can see very shallow lines on the rest of my cheek area as well. 3). I also have some small patches of skin where the skin looks slightly indented, like very shallow scars. I have not used this product for a week now. Is this normal?
