How Can I Reduce Scarring from my Ostomy Repair?

I had recently underwent an ostomy repair, and I'm at the stage where my surgeon instructed me to no longer pack the ostomy sites. What can I do to reduce scarring in the area? Are there moisturizers I should apply? Right now it's just rough and scab-like -- almost like a skinned knee. I asked my surgeon, but I'm a fat old guy (50), so he thought I making a joke :-P

Surgical scar revision with pulsed dye laser

Pulsed dye laser works well to reduce hypertrophic scarring from any surgical site.  I would advise this for patients who are concerned about surgical scarring.
