What is Red Light Therapy?

Some tanning/skin salons & fitness clubs offer a Red Light Therapy (BEAUTY ANGEL'S Photo Rejuvenation Therapy) They say is can make fine lines, wrinkles, varicose veins disappear, help collagen production, smooth cellulite. Are their claims true? Also I read that w/ IPL you should avoid St John's Wort would it be the same precautions with RLT? Thanks

I really want to know this as well! I read about the subject, and I found that collagen is usually produced in bigger amounts when the skin is damaged, so, I think either the pink light causes a controlled damage of the skin, to produce more collagen, or it makes the body think that it is damaged?? Their website (beauty-angel.eu) doesn't actually state HOW the light gives you all those benefits, it just says that the skin absorbs the light and stimulates the bodies own production of collagen.. But WHY does the light stimulate the bodies own production of collagen!? I am not a doctor or health professional or anything like that, but I tried to read on the subject, so I will try to write some information down, and you can check up on that if you want to. There are some things that makes me think this company is not very reliable; The website gives you a bunch of suggestions to other treatments, such as "vibra shape", which is one of those belts that use electricity to make your muscles contract, instead of workout. I have never heard of those belts actually working. As far as I know, the concept is fine, but you would need a painful amount of it, for it to work. Also, the angel light supposedly makes your skin absorb beauty products (such as anti-aging creams) better. But as far as I know, there is no kind of anti-aging cream that you can buy in a store that actually be absorbed deep enough down into the skin to do the things you need to properly remove wrinkles (I was told this by my mother, who is a pharmacist) . Laser can do that. Actually, most facial creams have different kinds of acid in them, which damages your skin, which makes it more prone to sun damage (UV light), and if you damage your skin alot with acids and UV light, you will get those small wrinkles that makes you appear older, because you get small scar tissue in your face. If you daily apply facial creams, make sure they do not contain a bunch of acids. And if you do use them, always aply a sunscreen afterwards before going out! And lastly, they suggest tanning in UV-light along with the red light therapy. If the red light damages your skin, using UV-light on your skin afterwards, would as far as I can tell not be a wise choice, if you want younger looking skin.
