Tummy Tuck: Q&A

What to Do with Hanging Lower Belly?

Help! I need opinions on procedures to keep my lower belly area from hanging. What can I do? I am a 42-year-old female, with the height of 5'2", and a stable weight of 160. I've had two children and has been left with a half blown-up bike tire on my lower belly area. I'd like to have some options and opinions to help me in my research. I am not out to wear a bikini; I just want to feel good in my clothing and not to worry that the hanging shows.

Hanging lower belly

There are two options in your case. One is a traditional tummy tuck where the skin is lifted though an incision down near your pelvis, all the way up to your ribcage, the muscles are tightened if needed, and then the excess skin pulled down, removed and sutured closed. The less invasive option is something called a panniculectomy which is just a wedge excision, think of a large orange slice, being cut out, no lifting of the upper abdominal skin, no muscle work, skin removal of the skin... more
