Breast Implants: Q&A

What's the Best Way to Prevent Rippling in Saline Implants?

I'm 4'11, about 100lbs, around a 34A, and my breast are about 13cm in diameter. My surgeon and I decided on about 330cc saline implant placed under the muscle. But recently I have become VERY concerned about rippling and the feel of saline implants. Is there anything I should know that will change the likely hood of rippling and whether or not they feel natural? Or is what i've previously decided on the best decision?

How to Prevent Rippling Following Breast Augmentation

For thin patients desiring a rather significant increase in size with breast augmentation, the best way to prevent visible rippling and palpability is to place silicone implants under the muscle. However, even with silicone implants, there can still be palpable and visible rippling in very thin patients. If you are not interested in silicone implants, the second best option for you is to place saline implants under the muscle filled to the higher recommended fill ranges.... more

Rippling of implants

For a woman who is very thin and desires a large augmentation relative to body weight, I would have recommended silicone implants. Even placing implants under the muscle does not completely reduce the tendency to ripple.

Breast Implant Rippling Prevention

Thank you for the question. Palpability and rippling of breast implants may be related to several factors. These include the amount of soft tissue and breast tissue coverage over the breast implants, the position of the breast implants (submuscular versus sub glandular), the type of implants (saline versus silicone), and the degree of overfilling of saline filled implants. Generally, weight loss will extension weight any rippling/palpability of the implants. Deflation of... more

Rippling of Saline implants

If you have concerns, especially about rippling, it's best for you to discuss those with your surgeon to ensure that you are both on the same page. Ripples just mean you have soft breasts, which is not entirely a bad thing. Silicone is slightly less likely to ripple, but it can still ripple.

Saline implants and rippling

If you have very thin soft tissues rippling is more likely. This can be minimized by overfilling the implants. Also if you are prone to rippling Alloderm can be used to camouflage the area.

Rippling of Saline Implants

Well, the best way to have your implants feel more natural would be to have silicone implants instead of saline implants.  If you are set on saline implants, then under the muscle is the best position so more tissue is covering the implants.  Good luck.

Best way to prevent rippling with saline is to use silicone implants instead

There are a number of trade-offs in the decision about saline vs. silicone. Saline implants do tend to be more ripply at typical fill volumes. This can be minimized by increasing the fill, but then they can be too firm and unnaturally round. It is related also to coverage, meaning that if you have an adequate enough fat layer and breast tissue, there will be enough "padding" around the implants so you won't feel or see the rippling. Choosing an appropriate size to match... more

Rippling of Saline Implants

Rippling of saline implants can be a problem.  The surest way of prevention is to opt for silicone implants which have a much lower incidence of rippling and a more normal feel.  If you insist on saline the best methods of decreasing likihood of rippling is placement under the muscle and overfilling the implants.
